First demonstrated in Japan last October at Ceatec 2009, the Sony 360° autostereoscopic 3D display prototype known as "RayModeler" is going to be showcased for the first time in USA at the upcoming SIGGRAPH event (Los Angeles, July 25-29).
 
The announcement comes with a video illustrating the device characteristics as well as its potential applications. Gaming is one of those, of course, and the PS3 is featured in the video as a compatible device (wait, don't hold your breath yet).

Sony: Devs to help build the next PlayStation

 

SCE studio boss confirms work is underway on 'future platform related activities.

One of the highest-ranking executives at Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed the company is hard at work on future platform developments.
 
But with former SCE president Ken Kutaragi now out of the picture, Sony is keen to turn to its first-party studios to help make future PlayStation consoles highly accessible for tomorrow’s game creators.
 
In an exclusive interview with Develop magazine, Sony Worldwide Studios (WWS) boss Shuhei Yoshida candidly explained how Sony has learnt from past mistakes and is now building tech that developers can get the most out of.

“When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Harai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get World Wide Studios in on hardware development’,” Yoshida said.  

“So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].”

And when asked whether this change in philosophy will be applied to future PlayStation hardware, Yoshida replied: “Yes, we are undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public. Some future platform related activities.”
 
Yoshida was appointed head of WWS at a time when Sony had endured a stuttering start to the PS3 era, as a number of third-party developers struggled to get enough out of the famously powerful console.

In the full Develop interview – published later this week – Yoshida explains in frank detail how SCE underwent a rescue mission for its first-party studios, bringing together top engineers from around the world to build a universal game engine. 

This studio-collaborative philosophy at Sony has remained in place ever since, and was a core pillar of the design ideology for Sony’s new motion controller, PlayStation Move.

“I’m spending more time on the hardware platform,” Yoshida added, “connecting hardware guys to developers. That’s my major role now, and Move is one of those new ways of developing platforms.”

    The Zombie mode in Call of Duty: World at War was a huge hit amongst the collective first person community, pitting players against an endless horde of rage filled zombies in a bid to not only get to the highest wave possible, but also to survive. When Call of Duty: Black Ops was announced the community as usual demanded all the stupid stuff as they do, but the common collective just wanted Zombies back in the game. There has been no official word as of yet.

    In the most expected reveal of Sony’s E3 conference, the company announced the arrival of a premium service for the PSN, appropriately titled PlayStation Plus.

    Don’t panic, the new service will not hinder online play for PS3 owners who wish not to pay, and all existing features will remain free.

    Members will be able to get at least four games a month at no extra charge.  Each month there will be a selection of one PSN game, two minis and one PS one classic available on PlayStation Store for you to download. You also get premium avatars and dynamic themes each month, many of which are exclusive to members.

    There will also be discounts available on PlayStation Store content, just for the members, and, you will be giving  selected demos and beta trials before they go live to the public. Allegedly, the games, avatars and themes alone are worth at least £200 per year, but that will not be the only benefit of the service.

    This premium feature gives you the chance to try PSN and Blu-ray disc titles before you buy them in a revolutionary new way. ‘Full Game Trial’ allows you to download the full game and play it as if you owned it for approximately one hour, depending on the game, before you decide if you want to buy it or not. This includes online modes, and all other features you’d expect in a game. Additionally, your progress and trophies from the trial will all be unlocked if you buy the game so no need to go back and start again.

    Another feature exclusive to the Plus service is the ability to set your PS3 to automatically receive the latest game updates for all the games you play, PS3 system software updates and game demos for your PS3, all automatically. After setting the time, your PS3 will automatically wake up and download everything, ready for when you next want to game, thus stopping you from having to wait for patches each time you want to play a game.

    The price is $49.99/ €49.99 / £39.99 a year. In addition, you have the option of purchasing three months for $18/ €14.99 / £11.99.

I will be launching a new design for the site in the next week or so, it looks really good and it is much cleaner then the current look, I hope you all will like it. I am currently testing it out and when it is done the site will be offline for a few hours, so if you come to visit and the site is offline, do not panic, it is not you.

    The PlayStation Network Is Under Attack

    Users on the PlayStation Network have been reporting some serious issues regarding PlayStation Network code generator websites, these generator websites have reportedly hacked into people's personal info through PSN. Unfortunately, our Ironstar comrade Dom Guerrera was a victim of this new attack against PlayStation Network users. In his situation a credit card stored on his account was charged around $350 worth of PlayStation Network content that he didn't authorize. There has been a slew of chain letters circling around the PlayStation Network with links to these code generator websites; it is believed that these websites are loop hole hacks to obtain your personal information, opening them could be dangerous. Inside of the chain letter reported to effect your PlayStation Network account there is a link to a code generator website for "free" PlayStation Network content. Details on this situation are still coming in, we have contacted Sony for a response.

    If you believe you have opened one of these tainted messages immediately do the following:
    • Delete your credit card information off of your PlayStation Network account using the official PlayStation website.
    • Change your email and password for your PlayStation Network account using the official PlayStation Network website.
    • Contact Sony PlayStation customer service 1800-345-7669, also contact your credit or debit card customer service representative.
    • Check your email tied to your PlayStation Network account for suspicious purchases.
    As a precaution to these unknown hacks on against PlayStation Network users we recommend that you:
    • Delete any random chain messages, even if they are from friends. There is a way to view a small segment of messages sent to you on the PlayStation Network. If you suspect a message to be a chain letter containing the hack view the message (WITHOUT OPENING IT) by pressing (x) twice on the sent user's profile.
    • Block users who send you chain messages.
