I’m sure many of you PS3 gamers out there have had experiences online where some users microphones have given terrible feedback, well now, help is at hand from Sony’s latest Firmware update in the shape of an Echo Canceller.

Head over to the settings section of the XMB and scroll down to Accessory Settings, and then choose Audio Device Settings. Move the cursor down to your headset, and hit Triangle. From there, choose Settings off the menu, and you can then use the Echo Canceller.

It’s strange to think a feature like this was left off any changelogs for 3.00, as it could be a Godsend for many online gamers, and may be particularly good for those of you who use the PS Eye as a mic.

]]>Tue, 1 Sep 2009 08:41:30 GMT<![CDATA[PS 3 on a diet - now for $299]]>Sony Europe has officially unveiled the long rumored PlayStation 3 Slim today during its press conference at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany.

According to Sony chief Kazuo Hirai, the revamped console will go on sale during the first week of September, and features (as leaked earlier today) a 120GB hard drive among the obvious aesthetical tweaks.

PS3 Slim will retail for approximately 299 EURO/$299 USD – likewise for the current model, which Hirai confirmed would receive a price drop effective as of tomorrow. Stay tuned for further details.

Items addressed in this TU include matchmaking and spawning.
"We have just finished work on an improvement to Matchmaking aimed at speeding up the process, as well as adding stability and party cohesion when searching for a match.

It is expected that search times will be improved, and your large parties will no longer break up when searching for matches. There will be continued improvements to this system in our next TU release as well."

Map Pack 2 is coming to the PS Store some Thursday in June.   Info on this, including actual gameplay on the new maps can be found here:

We like Home.  We didn’t used to, but now we do - the amount of content is steadily rising and the quality and interactivity of said new Spaces seems to be really working out.  Naturally some Spaces are more useful than others (the Resident Evil 5 area is particularly misguided) and whilst Sony’s own Xi is still the service’s main draw each day, EA has now entered the arena.

The EA Sports Complex is now live, albeit only in English.  The new Space actually consists of a couple of seperate sections, and although the Golf game isn’t working, the racing and the poker games are.   It’s still slightly baffling that you need to queue for a game, but if you’ve got some spare time you’ll be happy to know that both new items work really well.

Poker, in particular, is nicely produced and seems to be quite popular already, and if you can’t get in on a table (it’s Tournament style Poker) some little screens pop up so you can monitor how the game is going.  The new games, like the recent SingStar Trophies, unlock content in Home, so expect to win a few new t-shirts if you get some lucky hands.
